It is said that unless Mata Vaishno Devi sends you a 'call' to invite you to her shrine, no matter how eager you are to take the journey, you won't be able to head for her darshan.

Every year millions of pilgrims trek the 13-kilometres long route to the holy shrine to pay their obeisance to Mata Vaishno Devi. Katra is about 50 kilometres from Jammu.

It is believed that the Vaishno Devi Yatra is considered complete only if you visit the Bhairon Temple after offering prayers to Mata Vaishno Devi. The temple is about 2.5 kilometres from the holy shrine.
